Davis Legacy Soccer Academy

2nd and 3rd Grade

April 7 to May 14, 2008

What is Davis Legacy?

Davis Legacy is the non-profit competitive soccer club in Davis previously known as the Davis Youth Soccer League (DYSL). Davis Legacy offers competitive soccer opportunities for boys and girls ages 9 to 17 in U10 thru U18 leagues in the Sacramento region. The Davis Legacy Soccer Academy offers a skills-based program for 2nd and 3rd grade boys and girls that give them the opportunity to experience the same top notch coaching that the competitive teams receive while learning soccer skills in a positive, fun and encouraging environment.

Who will be the instructors?

The Academy will be lead by members of our very own state licensed Davis Legacy coaching staff. These are the same coaches who are teaching and developing our successful competitive club teams.

What will the players learn?

The program will focus upon teaching players 3 to 4 individual moves and skills, such as, the Stop Turn, Drag Back, Step-Over Turn, Platini Turn, Cryuff Turn, Inside Cut, Outside Cut, Scissors Move and Maradona Spin. Successful learning is achieved by the coaches breaking down each technique and teaching it in a step by step format. Players then get the opportunity to apply these skills during 1v1 sessions and a final game at the end of each practice. In addition, the program will draw upon aspects of team play, including passing, and developing a player's movement off the ball, communication and decision making.

When are practices?

The program is designed so parents may choose one day per week for practice (Mon.-Wed.). The child attends practice on the day most convenient for them. The same high quality instruction will be given each day. Practice time is 5:00- 6:00 p.m. Note: you must sign up for one day and stick to it. We will limit the number of participants for each practice so signing up early is advised to get your first choice day.

Where are the fields located?

Practices will be held at the Davis Legacy soccer facility located on County Road 105D off the frontage road (County Road 32 B) in South Davis between Mace Blvd. and the Causeway. From the freeway, take the Mace Blvd. exit. Head east on Chiles Road. Chiles Road turns into County Road 32 B at the city limit line.

How will the games be played?

At the end of each practice we will play a short-sided games that allow for maximum touches and an emphasis on developing and using the soccer skills taught in practice. A 10-15 minute short-sided games will be played on small field at the end of each practice. Our goal is to play 4 or 5-a-side games depending upon the number of kids showing up. For the games there are no set teams. We divide all the kids who show up into teams that day. Everyone plays, there are no substitutions. The emphasis is on fun and having the kids practice their new skills in game situations.
