Legacy Vipers Win at Rogue Valley Cup

 

Davis Legacy Vipers, a U-14 boys team, came away with first place at the Rogue Valley Cup in Medford, Oregon, over Memorial Day weekend.The Vipers kicked off the tournament with a 3-1 win over the Carson City Patriots. Antonio Rodriguez scored the first goal for the Vipers with an assist by Paul Hinton. Jorge Portillo found the net for two more goals with assists by Rodriguez and Robbie Burns. Game two of the tournament ended in a 1-1 tie between the Vipers and the Medford Shockwave. Adam Cunning scored the lone Davis goal on a header, with an assist from Alex Raya. On Sunday, the Vipers cemented a win in game three of the tournament with a 3-1 victory over the Portland Cobalt. Rodriguez put the first goal in with an assist from Portillo. Hinton and Portillo scored the next two goals. Game four saw the Vipers rack up a 5-1 win over International Portugal of Reno and secure a berth in the final match. Scoring for the Vipers were Rami Rashmawi, Portillo, guest player Luis, Shane Pesis and Logan Schwab. Rodriguez, Pesis and Burns provided critical assists. In the championship game Monday, the Vipers faced off again with the Carson City Patriots. The Vipers pulled out a 1-0 win on a lone goal by Portillo, assisted by Rodriguez. Strong defensive play throughout the tournament, particularly by Schwab, Raya, Glenn Trepeta, and goalkeeper Josh Sherwin allowed only four goals during the five games. Vipers goal keeper Josh Sherwin prevailed in the tournament’s customary Keeper Wars on Saturday.
