Davis Soccer Club Philosophy

The Davis Legacy curriculum provides development of individual and team technical and tactical skills, with and without the ball. This will allow our players to compete effectively at the highest possible level.

Technical skills are the foundation of great soccer players. Davis Legacy players will develop individual skills such as moves, sequencing specialized footwork, turns, feints and, above all a competent first touch. Confidence with the ball in pressure situations is essential; therefore, after teaching individual skills we expose our players to 1v1 situations where they practice their developed skills at game speed. In addition, we will set specific challenges for each individual in order to develop their soccer-specific fitness, such as speed, strength and aerobic/anaerobic stamina.

With proficient individual skills, players have the time, space and confidence to be effective when using partner skills, such as passing, receiving, and communicating (both visually and verbally). Subsequently, this allows our players to master combination play such as wall passes, take-overs and overlaps.
Small group concepts such as group attacking, group defending, and combination play (e.g., 3rd man runs, link-up play) can be learned when the players are proficient with their individual skills and confident in their ability to make the correct decisions when working with partners.
Team concepts can be built upon the small group concepts. Attacking with patterns of play, ball-oriented zonal defending, counter-attacking, attacking from the back, transitioning between offense and defense, defending and attacking corner kicks and free kicks.
Creativity makes the game of soccer exciting. We encourage players to experiment both at training sessions and during matches. We believe in encouraging players to use their individual technical skills and problem solving skills to find ways to be successful.
Most importantly, we have fun. At Davis Legacy we have high expectations for every player. We play hard and train hard, but always in a low-pressure, encouraging environment with an emphasis on good sportsmanship. Players who enjoy what they are doing in a respectful environment will work harder to achieve their goals.
