Tryout Registration

Please register on line. This advance registration ensures that we have your contact information and that we can provide that information to the appropriate coaches.

Tryout Process

We assign a numbered vest for each player for tryouts. The coaches will be given a list of players and their vest number. Players will get the same number vest at each tryout.

Play Up Process

Players who wish to “play up” or participate on a team one or more years above their age level must make that request on the registration form. The club policy is that players are only eligible to play up they must be an impact players for the team they wish to play on.
Independent club coaches will make this assessment during the first two tryouts for each team. Players pursuing this option may participate in all of the tryouts for both the “age appropriate” and play up teams if they wish, and must attend at least one tryout to receive an offer from either team. Players transferring into the club from outside teams (U15 and older) are exempt from the play up requirements.

Notification

Players must attend at least one tryout to receive an offer from a coach for a club team. Coaches will not make offers until after the second tryout, and many will not make offers until after final tryout. Coaches will make offers in writing or via email. Families have 3 days after receiving an offer to accept or decline. Players attempting to “play up” to a U15 team may try out and accept an offer from the U14 team, and then subsequently participate in and accept an offer from the U15 team, provided that they inform the U14 coach at the beginning of tryouts.
All players who participate will be contacted. As there are two teams in most age groups, it may take 2-3 weeks after the last tryout to contact players with offers and/or to be notified that an offer will not be extended.

Costs and Comittments

Club Costs
The direct Club cost begins at about $800-900 per year - at the youngest age groups - and increases depending on (a) whether you are participating at the metro or competitive level and (b) the level of tournament travel your team participates in. The cost for participating on Metro teams averages around $1,050 per year and competitive teams starts at around $1,250 per year. An up-front payment of $200 to the Club is expected; the remaining costs are spread out over monthly payments through the duration of your team’s season. The above costs do not include the following costs: uniform (approximately $120), travel and lodging.

Financial Aid
The Club provides partial scholarships of $300 to $700 to families in financial need. Funding is limited and only pays for a portion of the financial commitment required to play at this level. Please indicate if you will need financial assistance when you register for tryouts. Failure to do so may result in being ineligible for scholarship funds. All scholarship families must make an up-front payment of $100. Individual teams may provide additional assistance to scholarship families by fundraising throughout the year.

Season Schedule

For players in the younger age groups (i.e., U11 to U13), training for competitive teams begins in April and continues through State Cup the following January. Metro teams train from June through Association Cup in January. Our U10 teams train from June through early December.
For players in the older age groups, training for competitive teams begins in May and continues through State Cup the following April. Older Metro teams (i.e., U16 and U19) train from June through District Cup in December, and have the option to extend their season through Association Cup the following March.

Parent and Player Responsibilities
Parents will fulfill financial obligations, provide volunteer service, and exhibit proper behavior throughout the season. Failure to do any of these may result in a request to leave the Club. All parents will volunteer for a team job and will provide 6 hours of volunteer time at one of our club’s four tournaments.
Parents and players will behave appropriately. Appropriate behavior, in its most basic sense, involves being positive and supportive of your team (i.e., coach, team manager, other parents and players) and soccer officials throughout the season.

Playing Time

The Club has a policy that each player on a U10 through U14 “competitive” team must play in an average of one-third of each league game he or she attends, and any player on a “metro” team must play in one-half of each league game assuming that the player is in good team standing (i.e., financial, attendance and attitude). This policy does not apply to tournaments, where there is no minimum playing requirement, meaning there may be some situations where players get no playing time in an individual tournament game. There is no minimum playing requirement for players on U15 and older teams. Within the above guidelines, all decisions on playing time are made by the team coach.

WELCOME AND GOOD LUCK AT THE DAVIS LEGACY TRYOUTS!
